Reading the Colours

After each guess, the tiles change colour to show you how close you were.

A

Green — correct

The letter is in the word and in exactly the right position.

B

Yellow — wrong position

The letter is in the word but in a different position.

C

Grey — not in word

The letter does not appear in the word at all.

Tips for Beginners

Start with vowel-rich words

Opening guesses like ARISE, AUDIO or CRANE cover common letters and reveal lots of clues fast.

Don't repeat grey letters

Once a letter is grey, you know it's not in the answer — avoid using it again to save guesses.

Move yellow letters

Yellow means right letter, wrong spot. Try it in a different position on your next guess.

Use hints when you're stuck

Spend coins to reveal a letter, check if a letter is in the word, or add an extra guess row.

Is The Daily Five free?
Yes — completely free. No ads that interrupt gameplay, no sign-up required, no subscription.
How often does the word change?
A new word is released every day at midnight (your local time). Everyone worldwide gets the same word on the same day.
What are coins and hints?
You earn coins by winning — 10 base coins plus bonuses for guessing in fewer tries. Spend coins on hints: reveal a letter (5🪙), check if a letter is in the word (3🪙), or add an extra guess row (8🪙). You can also earn coins by watching a short ad.
Can I play old puzzles?
Yes! Visit the Word Archive to browse every past puzzle and practise any word you missed.
What is Practice Mode?
After finishing today's word, you can switch to Practice Mode for unlimited extra puzzles with randomly selected words — great for improving your skills.
How does the leaderboard work?
Sign in with Google to submit your score to the daily leaderboard. Scores are ranked by number of guesses used — fewer guesses = higher rank.
Is there a mobile app?
An Android app is coming soon to the Google Play Store. In the meantime, the web game works perfectly on any mobile browser — you can even add it to your home screen.
